The Importance of Confidentiality In the Field of Paranormal Investigation.

The field of Paranormal Investigation has come to be accepted in today’s world, but one topic widely disagreed upon is “CONFIDENTIALITY”.

Paranormal investigative groups can do many positive things for people experiencing the unexplainable in their lives. The mistake that many groups make, is somewhere in the middle of all the publicity of getting their names and pictures in the media, the client may also become a target of this media attention. Sometimes this leaves the client in a worse situation than the one they were already dealing with. Only this time it is with the living, not the paranormal. Once the media gets involved, the client now has to deal with many other factors… Some people may point fingers, confront the clients, and claim the clients were making it all up for attention. Others will want to see for themselves, and still, many will do anything to avoid the “haunted people” the paranormal investigative group was trying to help.

There will always be some clients who will welcome the publicity. They want to prove to the whole world that what they are experiencing is real, and haunting are a real fact of life for some. That decision rests wholly on the client. To that client I say, “BRAVO” bring in the world to see for themselves, I respect your decision. For many, dealing with paranormal activity is a very private matter. The victims of paranormal activity are dealing with enough going on in their lives already. Sleepless nights, fear, worry about their children, and most of the time, just being uncomfortable in their own home. In most cases, these victims have had an all around bad experience with the paranormal. The paranormal investigative group coming to “HELP” the client, should not be the client’s next bad experience.

The goal of the East Coast Angels team is to, “Help families and businesses, who are uncomfortable in their own homes, or facilities due to paranormal activity.” Part of accomplishing this goal, is respecting the confidentiality needed to keep the client safe from the stigma attached to haunting. Don’t get me wrong, notoriety is nice, but it will come with the quality of the evidence captured, and having a client whom is comfortable in their home, or business again. The client should not have to worry about what the media will say about them..

When a client requests the free services of the East Coast Angels team, the homeowner and East Coast Angels, are required to sign a confidentiality statement, injury waiver, and permission to investigate form. This document states that, the findings of the investigation will be posted on the East Coast Angels website, but the client’s name, address, city or town, or any identifying information will remain confidential. The only information that will be posted is the evidence captured, the County, and State it was captured in. It also states that if any East Coast Angels team member is injured during the investigation, the homeowner will not be held liable for said injury. This form also insures that the owner of the property has granted permission to the investigative group, to conduct a Paranormal Investigation on their property.

There are many reasons East Coast Angels takes confidentiality and personal injury to this level:
1) Protect the client’s right to privacy.

2) Protect the client’s property value.

3) Protect the client from public harassment

4) Protect the client from vandals or thrill seekers.

5) Respect the client’s wishes.

6) Protect the client's home from lawsuits, stemming from an investigative team
conducting an investigation in an unfamiliar setting, in the dark.

7) To let the client know, we are here to help them, not hurt them in any way, shape, or
form.

It is hard for a client to let an group of people into their home, with free reign of the property, with no assurances. By having a client read and sign this waiver, they can relax a little, and just worry about the problems at hand, not the media, or lawsuits. We are not a group of kids, we are professional Paranormal Investigators.

Credibility in the field of Paranormal Investigation is based on TRUST and INTEGRITY. If an investigative group conducts themselves professionally, with the client’s best interest in mind, both parties can and will benefit from an investigation. The client gets answers, and possible solutions to their paranormal problems. The investigative team leaves with the feeling of helping a client in need, and possibly, evidence to present to field of Paranormal Investigation.
