Parker Brothers' Ouija Board

The History of the Ouija Board

What is a Ouija board? Ouija boards came into existence as a parlor game in the mid-1800s, when the spiritual movement was at the height of fashion. The word "Ouija" is a blend of the French and German words for "yes." Adolphus Theodore Wagner first patented Ouija boards, sometimes referred to as "talking boards," in London, England on January 23, 1854. In the patent, Wagner called his invention a "psychograph" and its purpose was to read the minds of people with "nervous energy." In 1861, Frenchman, Allan Kardac, was describes the Ouija board as an instrument that opens communications with the spirit world. Within seven years, the Ouija board had evolved from an instrument to read minds, to a tool for communicating with the dead.

Inventor William Fuld developed ouija boards. Fuld sold his patent to Parker Brothers in 1966. Ouija boards, today, look nothing like the original boards. It is also believed that Mr. Fuld was advised by a Ouija board to make a factory to build mass quantities of the device. 20-25 million Ouija boards have been sold by Parker Brothers, and consist of a rectangular game board that is covered with an alphabet, the words yes, no, and good-bye, and the numbers 0-9. Also included with the "game" plastic planchette. The planchette or the ‘pointer’ is supposed to glide over the board under the direction of supernatural forces, and form comments and answers by spelling out words, or phrases, or yes, no, or numbers. Parker Brothers has marketed Ouija Boards using the slogan, "It's only a game - isn't it?" It was only allowed to be marketed as a game, because it is the only way the Government could tax the board. If it were used as a spiritual instrument, there would be no financial gain for the Government.

Ouija Board — The Deception

It is believed by many that Satan and his demons use the Ouija board to give advice, or even to guide a person in a certain direction. This guidance often seems to be true, and helpful. Satan and his demons pretend to be caring. It is also believed that the Ouija Board is an easy entrance to this world that is obtained by an invitation by the user to communicate, and enter the user’s home. The problem with the contact the user makes, is that there is no way for the user to tell if the contact is lying or being truthful. True, all contacts made with a Ouija Board are not evil, or demonic, the question is, is it worth taking the risk. It is also interesting that the original factory for Ouija Boards was made on the advice of the spirit controlling the board. It is thought that an evil entity realized that this was an easy portal to this world, with an invitation. What a great way to open doors to the other side, all over the world.

Ouija boards appear to be innocent at first, but soon a person can find themselves addicted to guidance from the spirit world – thereby allowing a spirit to control and destroy their life. It has happened to many, including a member of East Coast Angels Paranormal Investigations.

By asking, “Is there any spirit that would like to communicate with me?” The user of the Board may as well stand in the middle of a large city, and say,” Does anyone want to come home with me?” Guess what, whoever shows up, they are going home with you, you have no choice. That is just an example of what the user that doesn’t know exactly what they are doing may experience.

Commonly asked questions

Q: Are hauntings caused by Ouija Boards?

A: Some, not all hauntings are caused by a Ouija Board. Not everyone will experience a paranormal event by using a Ouija Board. Often the user has no experience, but keep in mind, just as there are good and bad people here on earth, there are also good and bad influences on the other side.

Q: How do you dispose of a Ouija Board?

A: Whatever you do, DO NOT BURN A OUIJA BOARD!!!! The proper way to safely dispose of a Ouija Board is to have a binding ceremony done on it by someone who knows what he or she are doing. After the binding ceremony, the board should then be buried in the Earth. This is the proper way to safely rid you of a Ouija Board.

Q: Are Ouija Boards evil?

A: The board itself is not evil; it is made of man-made materials. That doesn’t mean that it cannot be used by an evil entity to enter this plane from the other side.

Q: I have used a Ouija Board my whole life, and never had a problem. Why should I stop using one now?

A: You don’t have to stop using your board. I will never recommend to anyone to use a Ouija Board. If you have never had a problem, you are very lucky, or someday I might get to spend time with you as a client of a Paranormal Investigation, then again, maybe I won’t. Nobody really knows why some are affected and some aren’t. There are many factors that can cause Paranormal Activity, all I know is that if you do consult a Ouija Board, your chances of being a target of Paranormal Activity greatly increases.
